Crosscut Bridge Opening

The City of North Vancouver's new pedestrian and cycling bridge over Highway 1 is officially open, forming a key link for accessing the Loutet and Cedar Village neighbourhoods. The Crosscut Bridge (formerly known as Casano-Loutet Overpass) provides people walking, rolling and cycling with a safe and accessible pathway between the City’s schools, shops, services, and neighbourhoods.  More details on the city's website here.

HUB Cycling staff, Local Committee members, and volunteers attended the official launch event on Thursday, August 20th. This event brought together community groups, City of North Vancouver Mayor Linda Buchanan, MLA for North Vancouver-Lonsdale and Minister of Infrastructure Bowinn Ma, TransLink's Director of Infrastructure Programs Sabrina Lau Texier, and ICBC representatives alongside hundreds of community members eager to try out the bridge.

This bridge represents a critical gap identified in our #UnGapTheMap initiative. However, there is still work to be done. HUB Cycling’s team has identified some other key gaps in cycling infrastructure on either side of the bridge, which we continue to work to fill. This is a big step decades in the making, which builds a strong case for further infrastructure improvements, continuing to make cycling easier, safer, and more accessible.
