StreetWise: Progressive Cohort Programs
Tailored programs for Women+, Seniors, Newcomers, and more.
Want a longer term, immersive cycling education experience?
HUB Cycling offers progressive programs that are tailored to select demographics, so that you can build your skills and your community with like-minded participants!
Register to build skills, and confidence and make friends with others on their cycling journey. Over six 2-hour sessions, you'll have fun covering topics like basic maneuvering, how to maintain your bike or plan the safest route in the city. By creating a community of folks who are interested in skill sharing and group encouragement, we hope to build participants' cycling confidence enough that they can ride throughout the city in safety and comfort.
- These programs run over six 2-hour sessions
- These programs are open to select demographics of any skill level, but geared towards beginners.
- The programs will be tailored to the participants, but will start with the basics of cycling and maintenance and culminate with group rides around the neighbourhood

Progressive Cohort Programs FAQs
What skill level is required to take part in these programs?
This program is perfect for complete beginners! If you've never ridden a bike before, or perhaps haven't ridden one since you were a child, this program is for you!
Where are lessons held?
Depending on the program, The lessons will take place next to Trout Lake Community Centre, on the gravel field next to the parking lot OR outdoors around the Thompson Community Centre, in central Richmond BC.
Do I need a bike and helmet?
If you have your own bike and helmet, please bring them to the lesson. If you don't own a bike or can’t transport it to the lesson location, we will have a fleet of 15 bikes and helmets that participants will be able to use for the duration of the lesson.
How can I get my bike to the program spot?
You can bring your bike inside a personal vehicle, on a vehicle's bike rack, on a bus bike rack, or Skytrain car. If it's your first time using a bus bike rack or bringing a bike on transit - check out TransLink's helpful tips beforehand. All Metro Vancouver buses are able to take 2 bikes on their front racks.
Do I have to attend all six sessions?
Due to the community-minded nature of the program, we strongly advise that you only sign up for the program if you intend to attend all six sessions. Life can throw you curveballs, of course, so if something happens and you cannot attend one or two sessions, please make sure to inform us at streetwise@hubcycling.ca or your instructor during the program.
